Create Semantic Group

You can create semantic groups in three different ways:

  • building a custom semantic group from scratch
  • using an existing semantic template
  • creating a semantic group from a device

Create Custom Semantic Group from Scratch

To create semantic group from scratch:

  • On the Data Management screen, click the Add button

  • This will open the Create Group sidebar
  • Enter semantic group name
  • Click Save

Create Semantic Group from a Template

To create semantic group using an existing template:

  • On the Data Management screen, click the Add button
  • Enter semantic group name
  • Select the Created from template checkbox
  • Type the name of the template inside the Filter semantic templates field (enter at least three characters)
  • Select the template from the drop-down list
  • Click Save

Create Semantic Group from a Device

You can also create a semantic group from a device. When creating a new device, check the Create Default Semantic checkbox. For more information, please refer to the Device Management section of this guide.

Modify Semantic Group

You can modify semantic group in various ways:

  • edit semantic group name
  • move semantic (sub)group to another (sub)group
  • edit access list
  • view semantic (sub)group details

Edit Semantic Group Name

To edit semantic (subgroup)group name:

  • Double-click on the (sub)group you want to rename
  • Inside the (sub)group window, click on in the top right section of the screen

  • Enter new (sub)group name inside the Edit Group sidebar
  • Click Save

Move Semantic Group

Move option in a semantic group window enables you to move the semantic group in question to another semantic group and make it a subgroup.

To move a semantic group:

  • Double-click on the (sub)group you want to move
  • Inside the (sub)group window, click on Move

  • Inside the Move Semantic Group sidebar, enter semantic group name
  • Click Save

Move to root option allows you to move a semantic subgroup to root level and make it a first-level semantic group.

You can also access the Move Semantic Group sidebar by clicking on next to the semantic group, and then clicking on Move inside the menu, or by checking the checkbox next to the group and then clicking on Move at the top of the grid.

Edit Access List

Access option allows you to edit access to the semantic group you have created, or the one you have permission to modify.

To edit group access list:

  • Double-click on the (sub)group you want to edit access list for
  • Inside the (sub)group window, click on Access

  • This will open the Edit Access List screen
  • Enter users or group which you want to add to access list
  • Select access level from the Access level drop-down list (View or Modify)
  • Click Add

To remove user/group from access list, click on Remove next to the user/group inside the grid.

You can also open the Edit Access List screen by clicking on next to the semantic group, and then clicking on Access inside the menu.

View Semantic Group Details

To view semantic group details:

  • Click on the semantic group inside the grid open the details sidebar.
  • You can also click on to open the sidebar

Also, you can click on and then select Details from the menu.

Delete Semantic Group

To delete a semantic (sub)group:

  • Select the checkbox next to the semantic (sub)group you want to delete
  • Click the Delete button

  • A new dialog will appear asking you to confirm the action

  • Click Delete

You can also open delete a semantic group by clicking on next to the semantic group, and then clicking on Delete inside the menu.

You can delete several semantic (sub)groups at once by selecting multiple checkboxes and following the process described above.
